ELECTRIC INK SKINCARE REVIEW

FullSizeRender.jpg-8.jpeg

When it comes to tattoos, everyone has an opinion. Some people love them, others hate them. Whatever your opinion is there’s no denying the design and dedication that goes in to creating the perfect tattoo.

If you have ever had a tattoo you will know the healing process can be quite lengthy and irritating. No matter how you choose to aid the healing process, the key is to keep it hydrated to stop it drying out or cracking. Once healed you will then be left with a bright strong tattoo that you will want to keep looking it’s best.

When tattooed skin is dry and dehydrated it is visible to the eye. Tattoos look dull and lifeless and when you’ve spent so much money on something, you want it to look its best, don’t you?

Keeping your tattoo moisturised will make sure your tattoo is looking it’s best at all times so when I was asked if I would like to try out the Electric Ink Skincare range I was keen to see if it could improve the appearance of my tattoos.

FullSizeRender.jpg-9.jpegFullSizeRender.jpg

The range consists of 3 products – the Daily Moisturiser, Defining Body Oil and Vibrancy Serum, and are each packed with active ingredients to help protect your tattoos. Liftonin®-Xpert helps to reduce inflammation and supports the maintenance of tattoo ink, whilst coconut oil, inca inch oil and vitamin E acetate all help in keeping your skin moisturised and nourished. Each product comes individually packaged in a unit carton adorned with classic tattoo designs, which is a nice touch while the coloured text defines which each product is – I’m all about packaging!

Daily Moisturiser 200ml What it says: A everyday moisturiser to help protect your tattoo and skin whilst keeping it fresh, nourished and defined.

Out of the 3, this has been the most used product. Not only does it smell great, but it also does the job. The lightweight formula quickly absorbs into skin leaving your tattoo looking healthy and bright. I particularly think this works well if you have coloured tattoos, as it brings out the intensity of the colours.

Vibrancy Serum 60ml What it says: Enhances colour, maintains pigment and promotes vibrancy of tattoos whilst hydrating your skin.

Much like the daily moisturiser, the vibrancy serum really helps bring your tattoos back to life. Out of the two I would say this one is more intensive but as I have naturally dry skin this is the type of formula I would usually go for.  I found that not only did this make the lines look more defined and darker, it also made the skin around the tattoo look so much healthier too – the addition of amino acids really allow the serum absorb deeper into the skin. The only downside for me is that the tube is quite small so if you do have a lot of ink, it’s not going to last as long as the daily moisturiser but a treat for your tattoos non the less.

Defining Body Oil 110ml What it says: Moisturises whilst delivering gloss and clarity for that fresh ink look.

The body oil spray is a great option for those who like to have their tattoos on display and really show them off. After spending the past two weeks away, the defining body oil spray came in handy at the end of a day in the sun. Not only did it keep my tattoos hydrated but it also made them look a lot bolder, even through tanned skin. Unlike the other two products the body oil has a more sheer finish so it draws more attention to your tattoos, however it absorbs nicely into the skin and doesn’t leave your skin sticky which is the first thing I though about when I saw it was an oil.

Overall I’m really impressed with all the products in the range and look forward to seeing what else is introduced in the future! Have you tried any of the Electric Ink range? Let me know your thoughts in the comments!

AUGUST FAVOURITES & NEW SEASON PURCHASES!

With the end of August, we also say goodbye to summer and welcome in the autumn months – This year is really flying by! I know I’m being quite optimistic with my selection of favourites this month but I’m not ready to leave summer behind just yet. I’m hoping we can still wear shorts for another month yet! In this post I have rounded up my favourite purchases from the past month along with some new releases for the upcoming seasons. Let me know what you think!

FullSizeRender.jpg-2.jpeg

On the back of the success of the Calabasas drop from Yeezy Season 4, the launch of Yeezy Season 5 expands on Kanye Wests Calabases line and features a whole host of  socks, sweatpants and hooded sweatshirts paying homage to the designers Californian  residence. One piece that caught my eye was the Calabasas Sports Tee, which I managed to pick up from END clothing.

I went for a size M as I had previously bought the Calabasas crew neck last season in the same size, however this thing is very oversized and I probably could have gotten away with a smaller size. The garment itself is heavy, and definitely feels luxurious compared to a everyday t-shirt. On too the design and the shirt features a ‘Cali SPORT’ slogan to the chest on a relatively plain shirt. As mentioned the shape is very oversized and has drop shoulders to emphasise it.

Next on the list is another tee, but this time it’s from French brand Drôle de Monsieur. The relatively new brand has been a favourite of the blog for some time now, having previously featured it here and here. Despite admiring the brand from a far, I have never actually purchased any of their clothes as it was hard to source in the UK. Fortunately the brand is now stocked on END also, so I decided to buy my first piece. The Not From Paris Block Tee from the infamous gender free ‘Not From Paris Madame’ line features a slogan print to the chest and is constructed from a light twill fabric, making it really lightweight to wear but soft and silky to the touch. It fits true to size with a relaxed fit making it an ideal alternative to the everyday white tee.

Staying with clothes, I picked up these raw hem jogger shorts from H&M not long ago. They are so lightweight and comfortable and I have been wearing them so much these past weeks. At £9 you really cant go wrong.

On to footwear and my first pair comes from Vans and the latest Anaheim Factory collection. The collection pays tribute to the original Vans factory in Anaheim, California,  by borrowing details from the original designs and bringing them up to date. The Anaheim Factory Authentic 44 DX features throwback details, using the original style number and colour palette, higher glossed foxing tape, cotton laces, original drill lining weight, and a heavy 10 oz. canvas to complete the look  The silhouette has been upgraded with UltraCush sockliners making them even more comfortable.  I have been waiting for these to rerelease for some time now so knew I had to grab a pair this time around!

Another pair I couldn’t resist was the Nike Air Max 97 in the black and white colour way. After purchasing the OG ‘silver bullet’ pair a few months back to coincide with the shoes 20th anniversary I had a feeling a host of other colours would be releasing in the near future and was hoping for a black pair. So when I saw these were releasing, I knew I had to add them to my collection.

The last item in my favourites this month is the latest Calvin Harris album ‘Funk Wave Bounces Vol 1″. although the record was released a couple of months ago, the vinyl I pre-ordered only arrived a couple of weeks ago so I have had it on repeat (again) since it came and I can’t see myself getting bored of it for a while yet! Favourite tracks are ‘Slide’, ‘Rollin’ and “Faking it’.

I hope you enjoyed my favourites! As always let me know what you think in the comments.

HOTEL GOTHAM, MANCHESTER

FullSizeRender 80

The past couple of weeks have been weird. I don’t know if it’s something to do with the change in weather (again) or what, but I have felt SO drained and run down. No matter how much I try and pull myself out of this ‘slump’ nothing has really worked, I just haven’t had any motivation.

So, with a couple of days off and no plans I thought I would take advantage and book a night somewhere because sometimes you just need to get away!

I have wanted to check into Hotel Gotham for sometime now but it’s often very pricey so have always just left it on my ‘bucket list’ of places to go. With so many deals around at the moment, we got a great price and finally decided to book our stay.

For those who are not familiar with Hotel Gotham; Hotel Gotham is located at 100 King Street in Manchester City Centre in the old banking quarter. The hotel is home to 60 rooms from a standard Club room to the Bank Managers suite – complete with its own roll top bath.

The carefully themed interior of the hotel and rooms is reminiscent to the golden era of 1920s New York featuring leather, furs and velvet, with brass details.

Checked in: 1/08/17

We stayed in the Executive Club room which is  a larger version of the Club room. On arrival we were greeted by the friendly ‘bell boy’ who took our luggage and directed us to the elevators (the reception is located on the 6th floor). We were welcomed by the friendly staff and given a vodka infused drink on arrival. Our room was located on the first floor where we were met with our bags.

The room itself was huge. the first thing you notice is the black and grey statement carpet which is a nod to the art deco designs of the era. The king size bed was adorned with a luxurious faux fur throw and peacock print cushions and the crisp white linen contrasted with the dark interiors and black furniture.

The bathroom boasts a rainfall shower and just like the room is a decent size. It features luxury toiletries from The White Company, on top of a gold bullion which embraces the buildings history.

On the top floor of the hotel you will find Club Brass, Hotel Gotham’s very own private members’ bar, which is also open to hotel residents. Unfortunately there was a private function being held in the main area of the bar so we were directed to a smaller area.

Regardless, we enjoyed our drinks and nibbles before heading out for the evening.

Overall, Hotel Gotham was the pick me up I needed. If you get the chance to visit or are looking for somewhere to stay for a special occasion,  I would definitely recommend it.

FIVE REASONS WHY I LOVE SUMMER

FullSizeRender 88.jpg

Hands down, summer is my favourite season. Sure, it’s nice to get wrapped up during the colder months but really, who actually likes the cold, dark days of winter? Not me.

In collaboration with Badger Ales I am here to share with you five reasons why summer is the best season!

Badger Ales have been brewed in the heart of the Dorset countryside since 1777 by independent brewers Hall and Woodhouse. They brew a range of quality beers and believe in making beer time as good as it can be. In fact, they are on a mission to show the public just how good it can be by transforming lucky Badger fans garden sheds into ultimate beer sheds!

The latest instalment is the Ultimate BBQ Shed. Costing £40,000 to create, the shed features a state of the art BBQ, tool rack, spice drawer, a fold down prep area and two beer fridges packed with Badger Ales. When it comes to sitting down to eat there is a pull out seating area with an automatic awning which all neatly folds back up when finished. Finally there is a hidden garden games box and dart board for those wanting to put their skills to the test. Check it out for yourself in the video below!

What more could you want from the Great British Summer?

01. Weather. I’m going to say it again. I hate winter.  The first of the five reasons I love summer has to be the weather. There’s nothing like a sunny day to put a smile on your face and make you feel energised. I feel so much more productive in the summer and want to make the most of my time. I love waking up early to see the sun has already risen allowing me to plan the rest of my day.

02. Food & Drink. Going back to BBQs, I don’t know what it is with British people but as soon as the sun comes out, so do the BBQs – everybody loves a BBQ! For me, whether I am abroad, dining in a restaurant or having a BBQ in the garden I love to eat outside when the weather is good – I’m sure food tastes 100% better in summer!

03. Holidays. Whilst I may not need any excuse to book a trip away, having a holiday booked during summer is a must. The weather in the UK is unpredictable at the best of times so heading somewhere you are guaranteed day long sun is my idea of heaven. Sun, beaches, day drinks. Bliss.

04. Days Out. If you haven’t booked to go away over summer, all is not lost. There are so many great places to visit in the UK; from tourist attractions to the great outdoors there is something for everyone. Go on a hike, take your dog for a walk, just go and explore – there’s literally so many options. You have to take advantage of the dry weather while it lasts!

05. Summer Style. In the colder weather, layering up is a must. However during summer picking out an outfit couldn’t be easier. Summer is the only acceptable time to get your pale pins out in the hope of picking up a tan.  For daily wear you really can’t go wrong with a simple t-shirts and shorts combo, or if you are looking for something slightly smarter swap it for a tailored pair of shorts and crisp white shirt. Finish with a pair of sunglasses and you are summer-ready.

What’s your favourite things about summer? What do you think about the ultimate BBQ shed?

ADDING TO MY SUMMER WARDROBE

FullSizeRender 67.jpg

With the summer sales already in full swing, now is the perfect time to pick up some new pieces to add to your summer wardrobe.

With a holiday booked  for the end of September, I have been on the look out for some items to take with me which will not only look good whilst I’m away, but will also stand the test of time.

This year I have tried to focus more on what I have been buying. Rather then spend money on seasonal clothes and styles, the goal is to have a wardrobe of staple pieces that can be mixed and matched to create a variety of looks; whether for day or night. So, instead of trying to keep up with current trends, I have been looking at more timeless pieces that never go out of style. I don’t think I have done too bad so far – you’ll have to let me know what you think about my most recent purchases in the comments!

FullSizeRender 71.jpg

Valentino Camo Slide.  I had been wanting these for a while so when I saw a 25% off code at END, I finally bought them. I know you might be thinking even when discounted, they are still quite an extravagant purchase, however I know I will get loads of wear out of them and can see myself loving these well after the ‘sliders’ trend is over. I went for the black and grey camouflage printed pair as they will go with almost anything – I love how subtle the camo print is!

All Saints Half Sleeve Shirt. I would describe my style as casual at the best of times. I feel much more comfortable in a pair of jean and a t-shirt over a shirt and trousers any  day! Truth be told I don’t actually own that many shirts, especially ‘summer’ ones so when I saw this half-sleeve shirt in the All Saints sale I knew it would be the perfect addition to my wardrobe. It’s perfect for those summer evenings where you still want to make a bit of effort, but keep cool at the same time. I really like the ecru, neutral colour which I think will look good with a pair of black cropped chinos or smart shorts.

ASOS Cropped Smart Trousers. I decided to buy a new pair of cropped trousers as mine are looking a bit old (and tight!) now. I don’t know what it is about ASOS sizing but I constantly have to order two sizes of everything to make sure they fit. I kept the size bigger than I would usually go for, so would definitely take it into consideration if you’re thinking about buying a pair. As for the fit, they’re skinny but feel quite relaxed. They also show just the right amount of ankle and will sit nicely above my footwear of choice. I’m thinking about pairing these with a crisp white shirt and my Common Projects for a simple smart casual look.

Converse x Comme des Garçons Play All Star High. Like the Valentino slides I have had my eyes on these for sometime but they were always out of stock! Luckily, I had signed up for restock alerts on Dover Street Market months ago so when I got an email notification about them being back in stock I immediately bought both the high and low pairs –  undecided about which one I would keep. Turns out I liked both pairs, so I have ended up keeping them both – one to wear and one to keep for best. I haven’t worn the high tops yet so I’m going to save these to take away with me.

It’s still a while before I go away and I have my eyes on a few other tings, but for the time being I’m happy with my purchases and can’t wait to start putting them together. What do you think about my latest pick ups? What’s your go to outfit this summer?
