AUGUST FAVOURITES & NEW SEASON PURCHASES!

With the end of August, we also say goodbye to summer and welcome in the autumn months – This year is really flying by! I know I’m being quite optimistic with my selection of favourites this month but I’m not ready to leave summer behind just yet. I’m hoping we can still wear shorts for another month yet! In this post I have rounded up my favourite purchases from the past month along with some new releases for the upcoming seasons. Let me know what you think!

On the back of the success of the Calabasas drop from Yeezy Season 4, the launch of Yeezy Season 5 expands on Kanye Wests Calabases line and features a whole host of  socks, sweatpants and hooded sweatshirts paying homage to the designers Californian  residence. One piece that caught my eye was the Calabasas Sports Tee, which I managed to pick up from END clothing.

I went for a size M as I had previously bought the Calabasas crew neck last season in the same size, however this thing is very oversized and I probably could have gotten away with a smaller size. The garment itself is heavy, and definitely feels luxurious compared to a everyday t-shirt. On too the design and the shirt features a ‘Cali SPORT’ slogan to the chest on a relatively plain shirt. As mentioned the shape is very oversized and has drop shoulders to emphasise it.

Next on the list is another tee, but this time it’s from French brand Drôle de Monsieur. The relatively new brand has been a favourite of the blog for some time now, having previously featured it here and here. Despite admiring the brand from a far, I have never actually purchased any of their clothes as it was hard to source in the UK. Fortunately the brand is now stocked on END also, so I decided to buy my first piece. The Not From Paris Block Tee from the infamous gender free ‘Not From Paris Madame’ line features a slogan print to the chest and is constructed from a light twill fabric, making it really lightweight to wear but soft and silky to the touch. It fits true to size with a relaxed fit making it an ideal alternative to the everyday white tee.

Staying with clothes, I picked up these raw hem jogger shorts from H&M not long ago. They are so lightweight and comfortable and I have been wearing them so much these past weeks. At £9 you really cant go wrong.

On to footwear and my first pair comes from Vans and the latest Anaheim Factory collection. The collection pays tribute to the original Vans factory in Anaheim, California,  by borrowing details from the original designs and bringing them up to date. The Anaheim Factory Authentic 44 DX features throwback details, using the original style number and colour palette, higher glossed foxing tape, cotton laces, original drill lining weight, and a heavy 10 oz. canvas to complete the look  The silhouette has been upgraded with UltraCush sockliners making them even more comfortable.  I have been waiting for these to rerelease for some time now so knew I had to grab a pair this time around!

Another pair I couldn’t resist was the Nike Air Max 97 in the black and white colour way. After purchasing the OG ‘silver bullet’ pair a few months back to coincide with the shoes 20th anniversary I had a feeling a host of other colours would be releasing in the near future and was hoping for a black pair. So when I saw these were releasing, I knew I had to add them to my collection.

The last item in my favourites this month is the latest Calvin Harris album ‘Funk Wave Bounces Vol 1″. although the record was released a couple of months ago, the vinyl I pre-ordered only arrived a couple of weeks ago so I have had it on repeat (again) since it came and I can’t see myself getting bored of it for a while yet! Favourite tracks are ‘Slide’, ‘Rollin’ and “Faking it’.

I hope you enjoyed my favourites! As always let me know what you think in the comments.

FIVE REASONS WHY I LOVE SUMMER

FullSizeRender 88.jpg

Hands down, summer is my favourite season. Sure, it’s nice to get wrapped up during the colder months but really, who actually likes the cold, dark days of winter? Not me.

In collaboration with Badger Ales I am here to share with you five reasons why summer is the best season!

Badger Ales have been brewed in the heart of the Dorset countryside since 1777 by independent brewers Hall and Woodhouse. They brew a range of quality beers and believe in making beer time as good as it can be. In fact, they are on a mission to show the public just how good it can be by transforming lucky Badger fans garden sheds into ultimate beer sheds!

The latest instalment is the Ultimate BBQ Shed. Costing £40,000 to create, the shed features a state of the art BBQ, tool rack, spice drawer, a fold down prep area and two beer fridges packed with Badger Ales. When it comes to sitting down to eat there is a pull out seating area with an automatic awning which all neatly folds back up when finished. Finally there is a hidden garden games box and dart board for those wanting to put their skills to the test. Check it out for yourself in the video below!

What more could you want from the Great British Summer?

01. Weather. I’m going to say it again. I hate winter.  The first of the five reasons I love summer has to be the weather. There’s nothing like a sunny day to put a smile on your face and make you feel energised. I feel so much more productive in the summer and want to make the most of my time. I love waking up early to see the sun has already risen allowing me to plan the rest of my day.

02. Food & Drink. Going back to BBQs, I don’t know what it is with British people but as soon as the sun comes out, so do the BBQs – everybody loves a BBQ! For me, whether I am abroad, dining in a restaurant or having a BBQ in the garden I love to eat outside when the weather is good – I’m sure food tastes 100% better in summer!

03. Holidays. Whilst I may not need any excuse to book a trip away, having a holiday booked during summer is a must. The weather in the UK is unpredictable at the best of times so heading somewhere you are guaranteed day long sun is my idea of heaven. Sun, beaches, day drinks. Bliss.

04. Days Out. If you haven’t booked to go away over summer, all is not lost. There are so many great places to visit in the UK; from tourist attractions to the great outdoors there is something for everyone. Go on a hike, take your dog for a walk, just go and explore – there’s literally so many options. You have to take advantage of the dry weather while it lasts!

05. Summer Style. In the colder weather, layering up is a must. However during summer picking out an outfit couldn’t be easier. Summer is the only acceptable time to get your pale pins out in the hope of picking up a tan.  For daily wear you really can’t go wrong with a simple t-shirts and shorts combo, or if you are looking for something slightly smarter swap it for a tailored pair of shorts and crisp white shirt. Finish with a pair of sunglasses and you are summer-ready.

What’s your favourite things about summer? What do you think about the ultimate BBQ shed?

JUNE GROOMING EDIT

FullSizeRender 66

For June’s Grooming Edit I have once again teamed up with Panasonic and the new i-Shaper Mens Trimmer to bring you my favourite products which I have been using this past month.

The i-Shaper 3-in-1 Precision Trimmer is the perfect tool to style, trim and shave facial hair to keep you looking your best this summer. The ergonomic design and cordless operation allows for precise trimming and complete control over the difficult areas such as the jaw line and cheeks to get your desired style. Featuring 20 different cutting lengths the i-Shaper ensures a hassle free dry shave which is gentle on your skin – the perfect tool for someone who likes to keep a bit of stubble, but wants to keep it looking neat and tidy. For more information and to see the i-Shaper in action, head on over to the Panasonic YouTube page.

So what new products have I been using this month?

Prada Luna Rossa Carbon Eau De Toilette. The latest fragrance for men from Prada is a good one. Combining a mix of lavender, citrus and amber, the fragrance is sweet yet warm and masculine. This is the type of fragrance which is universal and would appeal to most people – I get so many compliments every time I wear it and its the perfect scent for the summer months. £49

LUSH Enzymion Moisturiser. I recently visited the Lush Spa in Leeds where I had the Validation Facial treatment which was amazing! I would definitely recommend booking in for a treatment if you can. The treatment itself involved a number of different LUSH products so after it was over I was keen to add some of these to my everyday routine. Stand out products to me were the Enzymion Moisturiser and the Brazened Honey Fresh Face Mask (which they gave me after my treatment). The moisturiser is so thick and hydrating and is just what someone with dry skin like me needs. I was worried it would leave my skin feeling oily but as each pot contains a whole lemon, it leaves your skin with a matte finish. Again, another product which is perfect for the warmer weather. £14/£7

Jack Black Eye Balm. If the warm weather we’ve been having has stopped you getting a good nights sleep, this product is for you and it’s so easy to use. Featuring a stainless-steel rollerball applicator to massage and cool on contact, the blend of soothing and hydrating ingredients helps to minimise puffiness and brighten tired-looking eyes. The clear gel quickly absorbs into your skin and is non-sticky so is ideal any time of the day when you need a pick me up. Think mid afternoon slump or after a night of drinking.. £24

Perricone MD H2 Elemental Energy Hydrating Cloud Cream. The latest innovation from Perricone MD comes in the form of the H2 Elemental Energy range. The light weight ‘cloud-like’ formula is highly moisturising and is powered with Hydrogen to deliver ‘deep penetrating hydration to the surface layers of skin for 24 hour results’. The fragrance-free formula absorbs almost immediately into your skin leaving it feeling soft and smooth, without any oily residue. It kept me hydrated through the day and felt very natural. Not only does it do wonders for the skin, but it also looks amazing too, just look at that packaging! £80

Omorovicza Instant Perection Serum. I had never heard of this brand before receiving this item, but since I was introduced to it, I have seen it everywhere! I received this when I attended the Mankind Father’s day event at the beginning of the month. I wasn’t really sure what to do with a ‘face serum’ at first as I had never used one before. Turns out you apply this before you moisturise and, a third of a bottle later, it’s something I can always see being part of my everyday grooming routine. It feels a little bit sticky on first contact but soon disappears into your skin leaving it instantly firmer, brighter and hydrated. The Hyaluronic acid helps to plump up the skin and helps to lock in moisture. I also found that it made my complexion look so much better; minimising pores and making blemishes appear less red for a more evened out my skin tone. By applying a moisturiser over the top you are sure to have healthy hydrated skin all day long. £80

There you have it, my June favourites, have you tried any of these? What do you think about the Panasonic i-Shaper?

Autumn Favourites

Now that Halloween is just around the corner, I’ve finally had to accept that Summer is well and truly over and that Autumn is here. With Thailand only a distant memory, I have ultimately packed my shorts away for another year and dug out some of my trusty Autumnal favourites.

FullSizeRender-1.jpg

For me Autumn is about being comfortable. It’s not quite cold enough to be wearing multiple layers just yet, but it’s also not warm enough to just be sporting a t-shirt. Autumn is all about sweaters, chunky knits and if your an Instagram pro, the pumpkin-spiced latte.

For this post I have put together a mix of old and new to show you whats going to be keeping me going this Autumn…

Acne Studios College Face Sweater (similar) This Acne Studios sweater has been a staple in my wardrobe for a year and a half now. It was the first item of Acne clothing I purchased and still remains my favourite. I haven’t worn it for a good 5 months now so now is the perfect time to get it back in my rotation.

Dior Sauvage Eau de Toilette 100ml I picked up the latest fragrance from Dior in duty free on the way home from my last trip. I had wanted it for a while but never got around to buying it. I hate buying fragrances as I change my mind so often; but after testing this again at the airport I knew it was the one for me. I wanted something that combined the fresh, sweet scent of Gypsy Water with the woody fragrance of Aesop’s Tacit and this one does it perfectly.

Topman Scarf Although it’s not entirely scarf weather just yet. When I set off early for work during the week a scarf is a must! I picked this chunky knit scarf up from Topman last year just before I went to Iceland so it’s not a recent purchase but I still love how warm and comfortable it is.

Aésop Resurrection Aromatique Hand Balm 75ml This hand cream has become a firm favourite over the past couple of years. During the colder months it can be a life saver if you have naturally dry skin. Through work my hands used to get so dry to the point they would crack and bleed so any products that keep my skin hydrated is a win in my books. This hand balm from Aésop not only does just that, but it also is non greasy, fast absorbing and smells great.

Form & Thread Socks  Since I last featured Form & Thread on here, the brand have ventured out into a line of essential t-shirts, sweatshirts and shirts to add to their ever-growing sock selection. These Triple Twisted Yarn socks are the ideal partner to this seasons rising trouser hems.

What are your Autumn essentials?

It’s been a while since I last did a post featuring any new products I have recently picked up or have been using so here’s a quick update.

I know, another Aēsop haul, but, it was much needed. Starting with Shine, this product is a lightweight hair oil designed to hydrate dry, frizzy hair. This product is perfect for me as my hair is quite thick and course so it just gives that extra bit of nourishment, post shampoo. The screw on lid comes complete with a pipette so it’s easy to control the amount of product you use, and with only 2 to 3 drops recommend per use, this product should last a long time. Although it is marketed as a hair oil there is nothing stopping you rubbing some through your beard to give it that extra shine. My second pick up was the Fine Fabric Care solution in collaboration with A.P.C. I ended up buying this from the Prince Street store in New York after a disaster with a bottle of coke during my visit to the Statue of Liberty! I wouldn’t really hand wash anything usually (as it’s too much effort), however I’m planning to decant some of this into a travel-sized container for future trips incase I ever need it again! Lastly, I have recently swapped my Amazing Face Cleanser for the Fabulous Face Cleanser as its designed for more sensitive skin and I prefer the scent for the summer.

I have started using Marvis Whitening Mint toothpaste in place of my usual Colgate. I was first introduced to Marvis a few years ago when I received a sample of the Strong Mint variety and was immediately attracted to the vintage-style design. At the end of the day, toothpaste is toothpaste, and aslong as it contains fluoride and keeps my teeth clean and fresh, I’m happy, so this is a bit of a unnecessary purchase. However Mankind offer a value triple pack which will keep your teeth sparkling for a few months. At the same time as purchasing the toothpaste I also picked up this handy Marvis toothbrush with bristle cover which I plan to take to Copenhagen with me mid-July, as I only have hand-luggage so will be leaving my electric one at safely at home.

The P.F Candle Co Teakwood & Tabacco soy candle was also a New York purchase and looks great sat alongside the brown glass apothecary style bottles from Aēsop in my bathroom. (The scent is amazing too).

Aēsop Shine, Aēsop Fabulous Face Cleanser and Marvis Whitening Mint Toothpaste are available now at Mankind where you can earn ‘Man Points’ to spend against future purchases. Don’t forget to use my Referral Code: MK22832326.
