END OF SUMMER SKINCARE FAVOURITES

END OF SUMMER SKINCARE FAVOURITES

Now that summer is sadly coming to an end I thought I would do a round up of some of my favourite products I’ve been using this season.

With the colder days starting to creep in its time to switch up our skincare routine to adapt to the upcoming season. For me this means introducing products that can keep my skin hydrated against the harsh conditions winter can bring – my skin definitely needs an extra bit of TLC over the cooler months!

The past couple of months I’ve tried so many new products and brands, some with success, others not so much. My skin can be temperamental at times so I’m always on the lookout for new products that work for me to add to my line up.

So, what made the final cut this summer?

Ouai Matte Pomade – when I first tried this product I wasn’t really a fan. I had high expectations of the brand and they fell short. However after working with it for a bit I have found that I’m using this almost daily now. Whilst it may not be ‘matte’ it’s easy to use and gives just the right amount of hold.

Maison Margiela Replica ‘Jazz Club’ – I had been wanting this for some time so when I got it for my birthday I was over the moon. It’s long lasting and has a nice modern fragrance with hints of vanilla, rum and tobacco.

The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% – this is a real life saver when your having a bad skin day. I apply this every morning and fine it helps keep my skin under control. The active ingredients help to reduce redness and irritation and over time reduces the appearance of fine lines – something I’m a lot more conscious of after hitting 30!

Glossier Moon Mask – this super hydrating mask is one of my favourites. I had heard a lot of good things about glossier but was reluctant to try them at first. However this face mask does exactly what it says on the tub and is a must!

Anthony Facial Moisturiser – during the warmer months I go for lighter moisturisers to stop my skin becoming oily. This Anthony formula is perfect for during summer. It’s smells great, easily absorbed and gives me just the right amount of moisture I’m looking for.

Origins Active Charcoal Face Mask – another face mask, but another must! The active charcoal mask from Origins helps to visibly remove blackheads and reduce blemishes. I have used this a couple of times now and although slightly messy, my skin always feels so clean and healthy afterwards.

So there you have it, a quick round up of some of my favourite products I have been using this summer. Have you tried any of these? What has been your go to this summer?

NEW IN – THE MANKIND GROOMING BOX ‘STRENGTH EDIT’

NEW IN – THE MANKIND GROOMING BOX ‘STRENGTH EDIT’

If your supplies from the last Mankind Grooming Box are starting to come to a end, don’t worry because Mankind are back yet again with another fantastic box this summer to keep your skin care routine on point. Every couple of months the team carefully curate a new box packed with a selection of products; some from brands you may have heard of before, others maybe less so. It is a great introduction to some quality new brands and you can really see they have thought about each product that is contained in the box.

Whats great about the Mankind Grooming boxes is that they don’t require a subscription. There’s also no surprises – you can also clearly see what you are getting on the product page before you buy which is probably why they sell out fast. The Strength Edit features £130 worth of products, all for £40 and as always, the handy box features 6 full-sized products to cover all basis. From everyday essentials such as toothpaste to more targeted products like the eye gel they really do have a bit of everything you need!

So what comes in the Strength Edit grooming box?

  • Hawkins & Brimble Elemi and Ginseng Body Wash (250ml)
  • ESPA Shave Mud (200ml)
  • Christophe Robin Cleansing and Thickening Paste Shampoo for Men (250ml)
  • Marvis Strong Toothpaste (85ml)
  • Aveda Pure-formance Grooming Clay (75ml)
  • Refinery Eye Gel (15ml)

As you can see the box is packed full (literally) of full sized products. Although I have tried a couple of the items in the box before such as the Marvis toothpaste and The refinery Eye Gel, there are a number of brands I haven’t used in here, ever. Both ESPA and Christophe Robin are new to me and are the two products I’m most looking forward to using.

Although the ESPA Dual-Action Shave Mud is initially designed for use whilst shaving, I love the idea of it doubling up as a deep cleansing mask which they recommend using twice a week. The mix of ingredients sound so good too – a mixture of clays, shea butter and almond oil I can already tell my skin is going to love this product!

When I first opened up the box I thought the Christophe Robin product was a moisturiser so I was surprised to find out this huge tub is actually a tub of shampoo! Just like the ESPA Shavemud, the Christophe Robin Shampoo is a clay formula and is designed to leave the hair feeling healthy, thicker and stronger with continued use. Im not sure how it will stand the test of time in a shower environment but I’m looking forward to putting it to the test.

Would you like to see a review of any of these products? Let me know in the comments below. Have you tried any of the products in the latest grooming box? I’d love to hear what you thought!

OUAI HAIRCARE

OUAI HAIRCARE

“I created OUAI to bring a breath of fresh air to the haircare market”.

If you’ve never heard of Ouai before let me give you a brief introduction to the brand. Ouai Haircare is the brain child of celebrity hair stylist Jen Atkin, the woman responsible for taming the locks of numerous celebrities including Gwen Stefani, Gigi Hadid and most notably the Kardashians, appearing alongside the family in numerous episodes of the show.

The range consists of numerous products from the standard shampoo and conditions to styling products and hair treatments, but what makes them stand out from the rest? Ouai Haircare combines accessibility and luxury with nourishing ingredients and a fine fragrance…not to mention the Instagram worthy packaging and branding.

I recently picked up the Pomade and Wave Spray from the brand and thought I would see for myself what the fuss was about.

Matte Pomade – “A matte pomade that gives both long and short hair picky texture for the effortlessly cool look”

Hmm, matte? Really? I found this product to be quite greasy. I understand pomades are supposed to achieve a more slick look so I wondered how a matte pomade would work. I have quite dry hair so I don’t mind products that are a bit more on the slick side but I wouldn’t say this was a matte product at all. After I worked it into my hair I found that it did achieve the style I was going for but I wouldn’t say it was ‘effortless’. The hold is also what you would expect from a pomade but I’m not convinced how much texture this product could give you. The smell for me is overpowering. It’s not a bad smell, but after a while it did become a bit much. It’s not a bad product but I don’t think I will be switching from my everyday pomade just yet.

Wave Spray – “A weightless texture mist for effortlessly chic, undone hair.”

I’ve tried this a few times now – on wet hair, on dry hair, on clean hair and on unwashed hair but have had little results. As someone who has naturally wavy hair I expected it would form the curls and give a slight hold, however I have found little difference using this to if you leave wet hair to dry naturally. I’m quite disappointed as I have been looking for a good wave spray for a while, however this isn’t the one. Luckily I only bought the travel-sized spray. It’s not all bad news, it does smell nice and doesn’t leave your hair feeling greasy, sticky or dry. Has anyone had a different experience using this product? Let me know your tips for use in the comments below.

Whilst Ouai might be fast becoming a cult favourite, for me, the products failed to live up to the hype which is always disappointing. Sure, it looks nice, but that’s about it for me. Hopefully some of the other products in the range have better results and could change my mind!? Let me know your favourites below.

MANKIND GROOMING BOX | CONFIDENCE EDITION

Confidence can take many forms. Whether you class yourself as an introvert or an extrovert, one thing that can help you exude confidence is your appearance and how you feel about yourself. That’s where Mankind are here to help.

The latest Grooming Box* from Mankind is all about Confidence and has everything you need to make sure you are on your A game every time. Featuring hair and skin care essentials from big brands such as Jack Black, Bed Head and Neville, the box has all your everyday essentials covered to get you looking your best.

FullSizeRender 59.jpg

Starting from the top, the Nanogen For Men Shampoo and Conditioner 5-in-1 and it’s thickening formula is designed to thicken and strengthen your hair. The multi-targeted treatment contains a blend of hair growth factors, amino acids and exfoliators to keep your hair feeling healthy, nourished and looking it’s best. Having used the Nanogen products previously, it will be good to see if this all in one product is as good as the rest of the range.

On to the face and the Neville Rescue Scrub will help keep your skin clear and healthy.  The combination of volcanic ash and cocoa better is gentle on the skin and will not only tackle any dead skin cells and dirt, but it will also leave your face feeling soft and hydrated. Going into the summer this has arrived at the right time to help unclog your pores from sun creams and excess oils.

If you do shave, applying a post shave balm or  moisturiser straight after shaving will help trap in moisture and speed up the recovery process. The TIGI Bed Head For Men Balm Down Cooling Aftershave works to soothe and hydrate freshly shaven skin, relieving redness and irritation to leave skin feeling fresh and cool.

If like me you don’t shave daily, then the ManCave Original Moisturiser is ideal for some all over hydration. The moisturiser is packed full of natural ingredients to hydrate, mattify and energise skin. The light weight formula is easily absorbed into the skin leaving it smooth and shine free. As ManCave products are free from skin-unfriendly ingredients you know the brand has really thought about what goes into each product. Other notable ingredients here are caffeine which helps control the signs of fatigue and Borage Oil which locks in moisture.

When it comes to hair products I’m usually quite picky however the Jack Black Sleek Finish Texture Cream was a surprise. As stated on the packaging, the product has a flexible hold so if you’re looking for a product to keep your hair in place all day, this isn’t for you. However, if you have thick or wavy hair, the Texture Cream provides long-lasting, flexible control while keeping frizz under control, which is ideal for a natural looking finish.

For me, this is the best Mankind Grooming box I’ve seen to date. Each product has been carefully selected to cover all your needs and to keep you looking your best and fill you full of confidence.

With over £70 worth of full-sized products for just £25, the Mankind Grooming Box is great value for money and sure to sell out fast. For more information and or to shop, click here.

Revamp your Grooming Routine with Panasonic

Screen Shot 2017-01-19 at 13.18.13.png

Waking up during Winter is hard enough. Waking up and starting your morning grooming routine can be even harder. Despite the cold mornings January is the perfect time to look at our current routines and revamp them in preparation for the year ahead.

Starting off the new year with a good routine in place will not only set you up for the rest of 2017 but it is also vital to setting yourself up for a good day. A grooming routine doesn’t have to take long, every now and then it’s ideal to assess what works, what doesn’t, what new products are available and what techniques can be used to cut down on time.

In collaboration with the new Panasonic Electric Hair ClippersI have put this quick guide together to show how you can get maximum results for minimum effort, which means more time in bed!

Teeth

Investing in a good electronic toothbrush will not only save time brushing your teeth, but it also does all the hard work for you. Try investing in a good quality tooth paste and mouthwash to give your mouth that deep clean feeling.

Skincare

When it comes to skincare there are more and more products which are now tailored to men’s’ requirements. With eye creams, targeted treatments and beard oils saturating the market, it’s hard to know what you should include into your routine. With hundreds of products and brands for men to choose from it can all get a bit confusing! Knowing what works for you will be down to trial and error but there are two key elements to a morning skincare routine – cleanse and moisturise. Try investing in a pack of good quality face wipes, these will not only save a couple of minutes but they are so much easier to use then having to physically wash your face. Follow with moisturiser to retain and replenish any moisture lost through the night.

Showering

Try showering the night before. During the winter we sweat considerably less so switching from morning to night can trim 20 minutes off your routine. Not only that, showering at night also prepares you for a good night sleep, relaxing the mind and body, meaning you feel more refreshed in the morning.

Grooming

When it comes to male grooming, the new multipurpose Panasonic Electric Hair Clippers has all your needs covered and can be used for everything from taming your sideburns to shaping your beard.

Featuring new ultra close blades which are 40% shorter than the conventional model, you can achieve a much closer and precise cut, saving time spent going over the same areas again and again.

The ergonomic design and soft grip rubber pads allows the trimmer to fit comfortably in your hand allowing you to have complete control for a clear cut. This allows you to trim intricate areas such as the edges of beards and mustaches into shape on a daily basis.

The trimmer also comes complete with two comb attachments (3mm, 6mm) which can be used for all your beard, body and hair trimming needs. So if you’re going for that designer stubble look all you need to do is select the appropriate guide comb and go lightly over your facial hair with the trimmer, cutting everything back to a uniform length.

Once you’ve finished your routine, simply stand the trimmer back in it’s charging station,  ready for the following morning.

Offering 40 minutes of cordless power you really can groom until your heart’s content! For further information and full specifications on the Panasonic ER-GP21 Professional Hair Clippers head over to the webpage here.er-gp21-k811-product_imageglobal-1_uk_en

The ER-GP21 Professional Hair Clippers can be purchased at Panasonic Direct.

So there you have it, will you be trying any of these tips?  How have you revamped your grooming routine this year so far?
