END OF SUMMER SKINCARE FAVOURITES

END OF SUMMER SKINCARE FAVOURITES

Now that summer is sadly coming to an end I thought I would do a round up of some of my favourite products I’ve been using this season.

With the colder days starting to creep in its time to switch up our skincare routine to adapt to the upcoming season. For me this means introducing products that can keep my skin hydrated against the harsh conditions winter can bring – my skin definitely needs an extra bit of TLC over the cooler months!

The past couple of months I’ve tried so many new products and brands, some with success, others not so much. My skin can be temperamental at times so I’m always on the lookout for new products that work for me to add to my line up.

So, what made the final cut this summer?

Ouai Matte Pomade – when I first tried this product I wasn’t really a fan. I had high expectations of the brand and they fell short. However after working with it for a bit I have found that I’m using this almost daily now. Whilst it may not be ‘matte’ it’s easy to use and gives just the right amount of hold.

Maison Margiela Replica ‘Jazz Club’ – I had been wanting this for some time so when I got it for my birthday I was over the moon. It’s long lasting and has a nice modern fragrance with hints of vanilla, rum and tobacco.

The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% – this is a real life saver when your having a bad skin day. I apply this every morning and fine it helps keep my skin under control. The active ingredients help to reduce redness and irritation and over time reduces the appearance of fine lines – something I’m a lot more conscious of after hitting 30!

Glossier Moon Mask – this super hydrating mask is one of my favourites. I had heard a lot of good things about glossier but was reluctant to try them at first. However this face mask does exactly what it says on the tub and is a must!

Anthony Facial Moisturiser – during the warmer months I go for lighter moisturisers to stop my skin becoming oily. This Anthony formula is perfect for during summer. It’s smells great, easily absorbed and gives me just the right amount of moisture I’m looking for.

Origins Active Charcoal Face Mask – another face mask, but another must! The active charcoal mask from Origins helps to visibly remove blackheads and reduce blemishes. I have used this a couple of times now and although slightly messy, my skin always feels so clean and healthy afterwards.

So there you have it, a quick round up of some of my favourite products I have been using this summer. Have you tried any of these? What has been your go to this summer?

Exante Diet Weight Management Review

FullSizeRender

When Exante Diet first contacted me about testing some of their range a couple of weeks ago, I was slightly sceptical. I’m not really one for diets and wasn’t looking to drop a few pounds in time for the summer. After a further look into the product, I could see that not only can Exante Diet help you lose weight but also help you manage it. With so many fad diets around, it’s easy to become obsessed with your weight, and 9 times out of 10 whatever weight you lose you will gain back twice as fast once you stop.

Whilst I’m not necessarily looking to lose weight, Exante Diet can help manage your ideal weight through it’s range of different plans and selection of nutritionally balanced pre-prepared meals and snacks delivered to your door.

Exante Diet offer a huge range of meal-replacement products including prepared meals, soups, shakes, bars and more. Unlike typical low calorie diets, Exante Diet puts an emphasis on weight control and management offering a wide range of high-protein low-carb options to fit nicely alongside a healthy lifestyle. Having recently introduced a new wholesome range of pancakes, granola, crisps and even a chip shop chicken curry, your everyday favourites have just been given the Exante treatment allowing you to have a little bit of what you fancy without the associated guilt.

With a number of plans to choose from, there’s something for everyone. The Man Plan is designed especially for men or for those with a higher metabolism. The idea itself is really simple; once you have selected the correct plan, you simply login and choose which products you want online and they get delivered to your door.

With every product expertly portioned and packed with over 22 vitamins and minerals, I was eager to give them a try for myself to see if they are actually as good as they sound. So what did I think? :

Exante Diet Mushroom Pasta

Firstly, I love carbs, so anything pasta based is already a win. This microwavable pasta meal is made with wholewheat pasta, button mushrooms and chicken-style pieces for that extra boost of protein. The sauce is creamy and makes for a nice quick meal. Served with a side salad this makes a decent sized evening meal. [4/5]

Exante Diet Protein Porridge

I’m already a huge fan of porridge so I was looking forward to swapping my usual oats for the Protein Porridge from Exante. Unfortunately it didn’t match my expectations. I found it quite watery, where as I prefer it to be more smooth and creamy. Maybe I made it wrong or maybe it’s a bit of trial and error on this one. Either way I added a handful of berries as per the serving suggestion on the back and ate it. [2/5]

Exact Diet Chocolate Orange / Toffee Nut & Raisin Bar

Cereal bars are a great idea for when you don’t have enough time to prepare a meal. The Meal Replacement bars  from Exante come in a variety of flavours and are great for when you are on the go. With the right amount of sweetness and soy protein goodness these are just as good (or even better) then many shop bought alternatives. I could definitely see myself keeping a a few in the car with me, especially the Chocolate Orange ones! [5/5]

Exante Diet Protein Chips Salt & Vinegar

A packet of chips/crisps that count as part of your plan? yes you heard right. These protein chips were one of my favourite items I sampled. The size of the bag is over generous and the seasoning is just right. They have a light, crispy texture to them and are perfect for an afternoon snack. [5/5]

Exante Diet Strawberry Jam & Yoghurt Crunch Bar / Double Chocolate Chip Cookie

I was excited to try both of these as they sounded so good. Part of the Deliciously Different range, the Strawberry Jam & Yoghurt Crunch bar is another great alternative to the typical cereal bar. High in protein, fibre and full of vitamins and minerals, the bar has all the goodness you need to get your day off to a good start without all the sugar.  [4/5]

The Double Chocolate Chip Cookie on the other hand was a bit disappointing if I’m being honest. I don’t know if it’s because cookies are my downfall, but something just doesn’t work here. I found the cookie quite hard to eat as it’s so dense and packed full of protein. You can really tell that it is a ‘diet’ product. Furthermore I’d describe it as a savoury snack rather than sweet as I found it quite salty. If you’re after that sweet fix, Exante have much better alternatives to this. On the plus side, the cookie is a good size and it is very filling so I guess it’s doing it’s job. [2/5]

Aesop Skincare Essentials

Aesop have fast become one of my favourite grooming brands over the past couple of months. The first thing you would probably notice about the unisex range of products is the packaging. Encased in tinted brown containers with black and cream ingredient labels, the products look almost medicinal, but would look great in any bathroom. Founded in 1987 in Melbourne, Australia, Aesop have been committed to using both botanical extracts and man-made ingredients in order to create the best products they can.

I use Aesop products as I find the more ‘natural’ ingredients such as chamomile, primrose and lavender to be very calming for my skin. Like anybody else, my skin is prone to break outs too but I follow this simple routine in order to keep it as healthy as I can as the key to healthy skin is maintaining a good skincare routine.

FullSizeRender-1Using warm water, I start off by using the Aesop Amazing Face Cleanser £33. All you need is half of a teaspoon-sized amount to produce a rich, foamy lather. Twice a week I will also mix in half a teaspoon of the Tea Tree Leaf Facial Exfoliant £27, usually on a Monday and Friday, as these are my busiest days at work. The Tea Tree Leaf Facial Exfoliant is great. The product comes as a powder of Aloe Vera, Walnut Shell and Tea Tree Leaf which is designed to be mixed with your preferred facial cleanser, so you can control how much you use.

FullSizeRenderOnce towel dried, I apply Primrose Facial Hydrating Cream £33. As this product is quite rich and thick, only a small amount is needed. Not only does it smell great, it dries really fast leaving my face hydrated… my skin can’t get enough! I tend to skip the toner part during the colder months as I find it dries out my skin too much and leaves it more irritated. I never thought I would be the type to use a ‘face pack’ however I have introduced the Aesop Chamomile Concentrate Anti-Blemish Masque £33 once a week (or as needed) in to my routine. As well as minimising the signs of blemishes the concentrated formula leaves the skin feeling fresh and revitalised and is really worth those extra ten minutes it adds on to your routine.

Aesop can be purchased at Mankind here where you can earn ‘Man Points’ to spend against future purchases. Don’t forget to use my Referral Code: MK22832326.

Have you used any Aesop products? What are your thoughts?
