JUNE GROOMING EDIT

FullSizeRender 66

For June’s Grooming Edit I have once again teamed up with Panasonic and the new i-Shaper Mens Trimmer to bring you my favourite products which I have been using this past month.

The i-Shaper 3-in-1 Precision Trimmer is the perfect tool to style, trim and shave facial hair to keep you looking your best this summer. The ergonomic design and cordless operation allows for precise trimming and complete control over the difficult areas such as the jaw line and cheeks to get your desired style. Featuring 20 different cutting lengths the i-Shaper ensures a hassle free dry shave which is gentle on your skin – the perfect tool for someone who likes to keep a bit of stubble, but wants to keep it looking neat and tidy. For more information and to see the i-Shaper in action, head on over to the Panasonic YouTube page.

So what new products have I been using this month?

Prada Luna Rossa Carbon Eau De Toilette. The latest fragrance for men from Prada is a good one. Combining a mix of lavender, citrus and amber, the fragrance is sweet yet warm and masculine. This is the type of fragrance which is universal and would appeal to most people – I get so many compliments every time I wear it and its the perfect scent for the summer months. £49

LUSH Enzymion Moisturiser. I recently visited the Lush Spa in Leeds where I had the Validation Facial treatment which was amazing! I would definitely recommend booking in for a treatment if you can. The treatment itself involved a number of different LUSH products so after it was over I was keen to add some of these to my everyday routine. Stand out products to me were the Enzymion Moisturiser and the Brazened Honey Fresh Face Mask (which they gave me after my treatment). The moisturiser is so thick and hydrating and is just what someone with dry skin like me needs. I was worried it would leave my skin feeling oily but as each pot contains a whole lemon, it leaves your skin with a matte finish. Again, another product which is perfect for the warmer weather. £14/£7

Jack Black Eye Balm. If the warm weather we’ve been having has stopped you getting a good nights sleep, this product is for you and it’s so easy to use. Featuring a stainless-steel rollerball applicator to massage and cool on contact, the blend of soothing and hydrating ingredients helps to minimise puffiness and brighten tired-looking eyes. The clear gel quickly absorbs into your skin and is non-sticky so is ideal any time of the day when you need a pick me up. Think mid afternoon slump or after a night of drinking.. £24

Perricone MD H2 Elemental Energy Hydrating Cloud Cream. The latest innovation from Perricone MD comes in the form of the H2 Elemental Energy range. The light weight ‘cloud-like’ formula is highly moisturising and is powered with Hydrogen to deliver ‘deep penetrating hydration to the surface layers of skin for 24 hour results’. The fragrance-free formula absorbs almost immediately into your skin leaving it feeling soft and smooth, without any oily residue. It kept me hydrated through the day and felt very natural. Not only does it do wonders for the skin, but it also looks amazing too, just look at that packaging! £80

Omorovicza Instant Perection Serum. I had never heard of this brand before receiving this item, but since I was introduced to it, I have seen it everywhere! I received this when I attended the Mankind Father’s day event at the beginning of the month. I wasn’t really sure what to do with a ‘face serum’ at first as I had never used one before. Turns out you apply this before you moisturise and, a third of a bottle later, it’s something I can always see being part of my everyday grooming routine. It feels a little bit sticky on first contact but soon disappears into your skin leaving it instantly firmer, brighter and hydrated. The Hyaluronic acid helps to plump up the skin and helps to lock in moisture. I also found that it made my complexion look so much better; minimising pores and making blemishes appear less red for a more evened out my skin tone. By applying a moisturiser over the top you are sure to have healthy hydrated skin all day long. £80

There you have it, my June favourites, have you tried any of these? What do you think about the Panasonic i-Shaper?

ADIDAS ULTRA BOOST ‘PRIDE’

FullSizeRender 69FullSizeRender 70

To coincide with Pride celebrations this weekend, my latest pick up comes in the form of this new pair of adidas Ultra Boost.

Much like Nike’s ‘Be True’ collection, the ‘Pride pack’ from adidas celebrates Pride month with four models featuring the colors of the Pride rainbow flag.

Staying true to previous releases, the “Pride/LGBTQ Ultra Boost 3.0” features a tonal black Primeknit upper and white BOOST midsole, much like the ‘Core Black 3.0’ released earlier this year. However, the moulded heel cage is now white and is adorned with multi coloured bubbles – paying tribute to the colors of the LGBTQ Pride flag.

At £160 these aren’t cheap, but when you consider adidas’ donation to The Rainbow Laces campaign to coincide with the release; a charity which aims to champion LGBTQ equality in sport, you can see past it. In addition if you have ever owned a pair of Ultra Boost you will know just how comfortable they are on foot!

What do you think about the latest Ultra Boost?

THICKER FULLER HAIR FOR MEN

FullSizeRender 61.jpg

One thing I have always worried about as I get older is losing my hair. Whilst there are many factors that may lead to hair loss, male pattern baldness is something most men will experience through their lifetime.

There might not be any particular cure to losing hair but as technology advances there are more and more treatments you might like to consider. From extreme surgical procedures to spray on fibres, there’s something to cover everyones needs.

Although I might not be losing my hair (just yet) as the saying goes prevention is better than the cure. With that in mind I have been using thickening or caffeine shampoo for years as well as other thickening products to help keeping my hair thick and at its fullest.

For the past couple weeks I have been trying out some of the NIOXIN 3D Styling range, which is available at Mankind. Formulated with ‘Pro-Thick technology’ the NIOXIN Bodifying Foam and NIOXIN Thickening Spray contain thickening polymers that deposit on the hair. The polymers form bonds between gaps in the hair strands to create a fuller-looking appearance. Both products are quite similar, in the fact you apply to clean hair and blow dry for volume however I found the thickening spray a lot more easier (and less messy) to use.

The Thickening Spray is great for adding instant texture and hold. Simply spray from root to tip and blow dry into your desired style. Depending on what style you usually go for, you can either use it as a styler and leave it how it’s been dried or for a more manageable style, you can brush the product out to work in other products to create your look.

I did find once dried, my hair felt quite stiff and dry but this wasn’t really an issue for me as I opted for the second option and also used a pomade on top of it, followed by the NIOXIN Regular Hold Spray to keep it in place.

The NIOXIN Regular Hold Spray provides a light, balanced hold. Featuring LIGHTPLEX technology with thickening polymers and conditioning agents, it has just enough hold to keep it in place all day, but without any of the stiffness or stickiness. I’m not sure if I noticed much difference in terms of thickness but it provided the right amount of hold and did the job.

If you’re looking for an added boost, the American Crew Boost Powder instantly thickens and lifts the hair to the areas applied. It might take a bit of trial and error to start with but once you’ve got the hang of sprinkling the white powder directly on to your hair, you can create a style full of weight and texture which will last all day.

It gives your hair a matte finish, but it works well with the rest of the American Crew range as a pre-stlyer if you are looking for a more slick style. Once again, I usually apply the American Crew Pomade to finish off.

Finally, if you read my last post you will know that the latest grooming box from Mankind contains the Nanogen 5-in-1 Shampoo & Conditioner. Having used the Nanogen range before I was interested to see if this would be just as good as the individual shampoo and conditioners. Luckily, it is, and more. The incredible 5-in-1 treatment helps to cleanse, condition, exfoliate, thicken and strengthen hair. To put it simply, it leaves your hair feeling super healthy and… thick.

Have you tried any of these thickening products? What are your thoughts?

Hand Heroes

FullSizeRender 3FullSizeRenderFullSizeRender 2

The constant change in temperature can play havoc with our skin. If you are anything like me and suffer with dry skin, one thing that always feels dry first are our hands. As I spend a lot of my day exposed to the elements, the cold weather and wind and rain can leave my skin and in particular, my hands feeling dry and rough. In fact, if I don’t look after my hands, they get so dry to the point that my skin cracks and bleeds, which is not fun. Luckily, over the years I’ve come to learn which products work best for me.

When it comes to hand creams I look for three things; It has to do the job, be super hydrating and absorb quickly – I really don’t like any type of skincare product that just sits there or feels greasy or tacky.

I always make sure I have the Vanilla & Orange Peel Hand Cream from Grown Alchemist on hand during the colder days. Not only does it do everything I need it too, it also smells amazing. I’m currently working my way through a 300ml bottle which I keep on my desk,  but it’s also available in the Amenity Kit which I featured many moons ago here, if you do fancy giving some of the other Grown Alchemist products a try.

Next up is the Aesop Resurrection Aromitique Hand Balm which I have just repurchased. Much like the one from Grown Alchemist, the formula is nice and thick and absorbs fast into the skin leaving your hands smooth and hydrated. The handy tube means that its something you can keep on your office drawer or in the car for when you need it.

The Resurrection hand care range from Aesop also features a Hand Wash and a sanitising Rinse-Free Hand Wash which is great for on the go in the classic Mediterranean scent. I honestly don’t think there is a Aesop product that I don’t like.

So there you have it. What are your favourite products for looking after your hands?
