Winter Whites

During winter you can usually find me bundled up under layers of dark clothing, trying to hibernate from the cold. I don’t know if I have mentioned it before, but I HATE winter. My body was definitely designed for warmer climes.

Rather than let it get me down I’m taking a different approach this year and introducing some colour into my winter wardrobe to lift my mood. Although some people may argue that white isn’t an actual colour, white is big news this winter.

Although wearing white during winter comes with its fair share of challenges, there are also huge benefits to the white trend. Wearing white is an instant mood lifter; leaving you feeling refreshed and feeling ready to take on the day ahead.

White is an all-time classic colour that is never going to go out of style and not going anywhere anytime soon. So, why not start building your wardrobe up with classic pieces so that you can wear white all year round.

Trends from this years aw16 runway showcased varying tones, from a crisp snow white to luxe cream so now is the perfect time to stock up on those essential items. While you might think that white is unflattering, It’s all about how you wear it. Combining  a mix of different shades of white, ecru and even beige through multiple layers and textures has been seen time and time again to create a sleek classic look.

With that in mind I thought I would share with you some of my recent favourites I have picked up.

The first item was actually featured on my Ultimate Christmas Wishlist blog post from earlier on in December. My brother must have read it as he bought me this A.P.C Oh L’Amour Tee which I featured. Constructed from 100% cotton jersey with a high quality print to the chest, this t-shirt is the ultimate white shirt! I love it!

Next up is another pair of Adidas Stan Smiths . Stan Smiths have always been a favourite of mine and I’ve had a few pairs over the last couple of years, but never a crisp all white pair. I’m trying to save them for dry days at the moment but we will see how that works out. If it has anything to do with lola (my pug) they won’t be white for very long!

The final item is some Classic Calvin Klein Boxers because who doesn’t like fresh underwear and these Calvin Klein’s never go out of style.

What do you think of the white trend? Will you be wearing white? You can shop the look below:

Kurt Geiger Man AW16

Following on from a recent post about sweaters for the upcoming Autumn/Winter season I’m now back with Kurt Geiger to show you another key item that belongs in your AW16 wardrobe.

Kurt Geiger have recently released their latest collection for AW16. The new collection spans over many shoes, boots and trainers in various style and colours. Ranging from a classic black lace up shoe to a beige high top trainer, the latest releases are all set to see you through the upcoming colder months.

When I was asked if I’d like to style a pair from the new collection, it was a hard decision but in the end I opted for a classic pair of chelsea boots. Since then these Reece Black Chelsea Boots* have been a permanent fixture in my shoe rotation.

I’ve had Chelsea Boots in the past but have never really go on with them. One of the main reasons being the ease of putting them on and taking them off. Maybe I have weird shaped feet but it was always such an effort. However due to the soft suede upper and smooth leather lining on this pair, they are a breeze to get on.

Although the Chelsea Boot silhouette may never go out of style, this pair from Kurt Geiger have been given a modern makeover combining the classic shape with different materials to create this great looking pair of boots.

FullSizeRender-1.jpgScreen Shot 2016-09-06 at 16.51.24.png

The Reece Chelsea Boots feature a smart suede upper and a leather panel to the heel with a gold zip to the side which really breaks the boots up.

The contrast between the distressed suede upper and the polished leather heel panel will make sure that they never look out of place, whether worn casually or in a formal environment. For me, I like to keep things causal and I love how these work with a smart-casual outfit.  They are perfect for those summer evenings where you just want to keep it simple with a classic white t-shirt and black jeans combo. The classic style of the Reece Chelsea Boots add the smart element to ‘smart-casual’ with zero effort from yourself. For an added touch, I like to keep the side zip slightly undone so that my jeans can rest on them rather than cover them up.

In terms of comfort, they are some of the comfiest boots you could wear. The quality is spot on, so I know they will be getting plenty of wear coming into Autumn. I’m actually quite looking forward to see how they age too.

Whether you plan on wearing your new Kurt Geiger’s in a formal or informal way; to the office, or on the town, these Chelsea Boots are a must in your Autumn/Winter wardrobe.

My Summer Rotation!

With winter well and truly out of the way, it’s time to pack away those winter boots and bring out your summer shoe rotation. Now it’s finally safe to wear white again,  waterproof materials such as nubuck and leather can be swapped for summer-friendly alternatives such as canvas and knit. Whether worn with shorts or jeans, a good collection of shoes will see you through the Summer months.

When it comes to footwear I tend to stick to black and white as they will go with whatever you’re wearing. My Summer Rotation is split in to three different categories – Premium, Beaters, and Casual. So let’s get straight into it.

‘Premium’ Pairs – the most important pairs in the collection; the ones that only come out on special occasions in a bid to keep them looking good. One of my most recent and favourite purchases come in the form of the Y-3 Pure Boost ZG Knit (which I recently posted about). Although I have had them for about a month I’ve only worn them a handful of times due to the weather, but with the increasing temperatures I’m sure these are going to get there more than fair share of wear in the next few months.  On the other hand the adidas Ultra Boost Core Black are still going strong from last summer and have been worn countless times and are still in fantastic condition.

Beaters – everyday day pairs. These are the ones which are inexpensive and can be easily replaced. For me, Vans are classics. I can’t remember a time in the last 15 years when a pair of Vans weren’t in my collection. My everyday pairs at the moment are the Vans Old Skool and Vans Classic slip-ons. The Old Skool silhouette is timeless and has always been my favourite shoe from Vans, having owned many pairs over the years. The Slip-Ons take me back to 2007 when I had them in multiple different colour ways and are a welcome return having made a surprise appearance in street style culture.

Casual Pairs – pairs which can be worn in both a everyday and smart casual sense; pairs which will take you from daytime into the evening. My Casual picks come from Comme Des Garçon x Converse and the Vault by Vans Authentic LX. Both styles are simplistic yet premium and look good whether dressed up or down.

Despite being happy with my Summer Rotation, three pairs I am yet to add to the line up are the Common Projects Originals Achilles Low in White, the Turtle-dove adidas Yeezy 350 and finally the Triple-White adidas Ultra Boosts, which are set for a restock any day soon.F

Wishlist 8 – Add some Spring to your wardrobe.

Screen Shot 2016-04-20 at 10.16.08.png

MHL. by Margaret Howell Basic Tee in mint (£65) // Vans Vault OG Authentic LX in classic white/safari (£55) // Our Legacy Bolly Tee in pink (£85) // Topman Stretch Skinny Jeans in washed blue (£30) // A.P.C Novak Crew Sweat in grey marl (£119) // Converse Chuck Taylor All Star Hi II in white (£60) // Common Projects Chelsea Boot in tan (£315)

Spring is here and theres not a sign of black in sight. I know I’m kinda shocked myself, the colour black feels comfortable, it’s safe and you can’t really go wrong with it. For SS16, the monochromatic uniform of last summer has been long forgotten; replaced with a hue of pastel shades.

Taking style tips from the scandinavians, I have curated my current favourites for this post; to show you what I’ll be taking inspiration from in the upcoming months. Whether worn together or mixed with existing items in your wardrobe, this set of classic Spring items would make great additions to anyones wardrobe. So let’s get started..

First up are these simple tees from MHL. and Our legacy in mint and pink. I don’t think I have ever worn anything in either of these colours before, I’m not even sure if I could pull off a pink shirt but these shades are fairly washed out and not garish in anyway, so who knows. Even if it’s just for a hint of colour under the A.P.C Novak sweater, these tees are certain to brighten up your wardrobe.

Next up are the light wash jeans from Topman. I’m not opposed to blue jeans, my blue Nudie jeans are the comfiest pair that I own, I just go for a black pair 9 times out of 10. I’ve been searching for the perfect pair of ripped, washed blue jeans for a while now. Although these Topman ones don’t feature any rips, they are the closest I have found to the colour I am after and I’m sure I can achieve the look I’m after with a pair of scissor and some sand paper.

As for shoes, the Common Projects Chelsea Boots have featured on previous wishlists and I’m still pretty much in love with them, but at £315, I’m yet to take the plunge as I know I will probably ruin them on first wear!

I have also included pairs of ‘white’ Converse and Vans as they’re summer staples. Although described as white, they’re more of a vintage off white colour and will look great whether dressed up or down.

Last but not least I really want some slim fitting, cropped navy chinos for smarter occasions, they’re not pictured above but I already have this pair in black and they fit great!

Publish Brand are back with the second delivery from their “Second Nature” Spring concept. Influenced by the changing, uncertain global climate, the line-up of apparel reflects the imbalance being suitable for various conditions.

Celebrating their six-year anniversary, Publish Brand continue to blur the line between conceptual and contemporary menswear showcasing its growth in design, fits and fabrics in this collection.
